Updated: Mar 23

Amy Lewicki

In February 2017, Amy Lewicki was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastic Colon Cancer. She is also a mom to Emma, a Kindergartener at Field Elementary. Amy has endured multiple surgeries, dozens of chemotherapy sessions, various radiation treatments and even FDA approved trials in the past four years. Amy’s employer was forced to close their business and Amy has been unable to find employment given her treatment needs. She spent most of October and November 2020 hospitalized. Her husband Mike takes time off to get Amy to appointments and spend time with her in the hospital. His brother has moved in the help care for Emma and support Mike during the challenges of COVID. Together, Mike and Amy try to be positive for Emma but Amy is no longer viable for further medical trials and her cancer continues to spread and consume her body.

Janeen Hanselman

Janeen (Witowski) Hanselman is a brave and a loving mother to 12 year old twin boys, Jackson and Hunter, attending Sandburg Middle School. She was born with congenital liver issues and underwent a major surgery at 6 years of age. Between March and September of 2020 alone, she has had 7 hospitalizations. Now at the age of 47, she is in desperate need of a liver transplant. Anti-rejection medication, potential out of state donor expenses and basic costs of living are a challenge for Janeen and her family. Jaime, Janeen’s husband is a police office and sole caretaker for the boys since March, since she is so high risk. Janeen has been staying with her parents as she awaits a transplant, unable to participate in her families’ daily life, unable to continue her employment.

Tom Morissette

Tom is an adult with Down Syndrome and recently diagnosed with Multiple Mylenoma this fall. He is kind hearted and loves to interact with people, especially his extended family, during this pandemic. Tom is currently receiving aquatic and physical therapy, but due to budget restraints from Medicare, Medicaid and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, he has limited visits covered. The therapy decreases his pain and allows him to be more alert. Tom’s current prescription is for 20 visits but he exceeded his insurance coverage after only 10. With winter approaching, receiving enough physical exercise for his strength and well being will be a challenge. Tom’s caregiver is his 83 year old mother Lynne who has Bell’s Palsey and suffered a stroke and heart surgery this fall. She still has a mortgage on her house and dwindling savings. Tom’s future is in peril as Lynne’s income and health continue to deteriorate.

Update - Tom passed away on December 13, 2022.
